  Kayak the Black River, Dexter NY.

  • The Fish Island launch site area is next door to Bob's Rafting in Dexter. 
  • We’ll paddle up the river to Brownville, NY and back to the Boat Launch
  • This paddle is upstream from the dam, so some of it is reservoir-like.
  • Usually takes 2-3 hours depending on much time we poke around the shoreline. It's scenic.
  • If you’d like to do some whitewater rafting at the end, go for it. Very fast and difficult to paddle upstream.
  • The water is deep here, so touring, recreational, and inflatables should be fine.
  • Consider joining after our paddle at the Texas Roadhouse Rt 3 Watertown.

  Join us for a naturalist led hike at SUNY Oswego's Rice Creek Field Station.

  • The interpretive walk will include a discussion of plant and animal species observed at the station this time of year.
  • The hike will be approximately 2 miles over generally flat terrain.
  • The hike will begin promptly at 10:30, so please arrive a few minutes early to check in and use the rest rooms at the Field Station.
  • Park in the lot near the building.
  • It is recommended that you take precautions for ticks.
  • Registration is limited to 15 people.
  • Those who are interested can lunch afterwards at Rudy's Lakeside, just 5 minutes away.

  Our first September meeting is going to be held at the Marcellus Park Grove pavilion.

  
  

  Please join us - Saturday, September 13 at noon.

  
  

  I'll be providing cooked chicken, plates, eating utensils, etc. Please bring a dish (with a serving utensil) to share with everyone. Consider a dish to provide variety, if not, everything is a macaroni salad. Ha ha!

  
  

  You may bring your own alcohol, but you cannot bring it in any kind of glass. Boxed wine is fine or cans are fine. The park has a strict policy against glass and all consumption needs to take place near the pavilion and not in parking lots. There will be NO Tuesday event at the hotel in September. All things pertaining to the September meeting will also be accomplished during the picnic. Hope you can join us!!!

  • Paddle East on the Erie canal to lock 22 in Durhamville, NY. It is about 3 miles from the launch site. 
  • Go to the lock and go back to the launch site. The total trip is about 6 miles. 
  • After the paddle we can stop in Sylvan Beach to enjoy dinner together.
  • DEC is expanding recreational opportunities for people of all abilities and this site was designed and constructed with several Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant features.
  • The site now includes a two-lane, concrete launch ramp with floating docks, canoe/kayak launch, fishing pier, parking area with 24 car and 49 car/trailer parking spaces, including some accessible parking, and port-a-johns.
  • Paddlers must bring their own kayak and gear and wear a PFD.

  This spring’s Adopt-A-Highway is Saturday,  April 26th October 4th
  

  • We’ll meet in the parking lot on the west side of the Tully Burger King and start picking trash about 9:30. We clean Rt I-81 from the Tully exit south for about 2 miles.
    
  • Work boots and gloves are recommended as the grass may be wet.
    
  • We'll provide bump caps and safety vests for all volunteers. 
    
  • Afterwards we'll meet for lunch at Sweet Basil in Tully for pizza.
