A Club For All Seasons
The plan is that we’ll meet at 1:30 PM at the parking lot where the maple sap lines terminate. It’s the first parking lot on the left (east) side of Maple Ridge Road, about ¾ of a mile from the Truxton Road.
Directions to the Heiberg Memorial Forest
At this point we have no idea of what the weather will be like but the last couple of times we did this trail the snow on the spruce trees was almost magical.
We’ll publish a map taken from the CNY Hiking site that shows the Truxton Hill Loop that we’ll follow. It will show that we’ve added a couple of cutoffs, dashed blue trails, because some of us may want to cut it a little shorter. The entire trail is 3.75 miles and you can read more about it at https://cnyhiking.com/TruxtonHillLoop.htm
Interesting is that the east side and west side portions of the loop are very different, while the center of the loop encloses an impressive spruce forest area. The west side is used more, is almost flat and the terrain on both sides of the trail is relatively flat, while the east side is up and down along the top edge of a fairly steep gully with good views of the bottom land. We may go clockwise or counterclockwise around the loop, and that will depend on the wind speed and direction.
Please let me know if you have questions or comments.
