Great Bear Hike

• Meeting Place:  Great Bear Recreation Area, intersection of Great Bear Road and Route 57 near Phoenix
• Rating/Distance:  Easy to moderate; 3-5 miles (easier than when we hiked it in February and March)

Wooded trails in the Great Bear Recreation Area, between Route 57 and the Oswego River. There should be plenty of spring flowers. The plan is to make it to the far north end of Great Bear to Whiskey Island (check the trail map). Remember to wear appropriate footwear, bring sunscreen, bug repellent and water. Ticks have already been found at Great Bear. Trails are well-packed and should be dry unless we get significant rain beforehand.

Directions to trailhead:  Route 57 north out of the village of Phoenix; approximately 3 miles north on the west (left) side of the road.
