Book Discussion and Dinner Twice a Year

Fall 2017 Book Discussion

Twice a year (spring and fall) the Onondaga Ski Club book discussion group   meets at a member's home to discuss a selected book and then enjoy a group pot-luck dinner together.  Generally 25 or more members attend these discussions.

Currently, Dianne Emmick is the group leader. She selects a book, provides information about securing copies of the book, and then establishes the meeting location.  Members read the book and come to the meeting prepared to discuss topics designed to stimulate dialogue and interest.

Also, if you want to provide Dianne with book selections and/or dialogue with other members about the present book, click on the "Discussion Forum" button below.

The next book for the OSC Book Discussion group will be This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel.

Exact date of discussion to be announced but tentatively Thursday, November 30. We are always looking for people willing to host a discussion and dish-to-pass.  If you are interested, please contact Carol at

This is a novel about family with themes of gender identity, raising boys, parenting, family decisions, how a decision affects members of a family, keeping family secrets.

The book received 4.5 stars on Some comments include “It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me think,” “Controversial but beautifully written,” “One of the finest, most tender novels I have ever read,” “Brave, complicated, occasionally horrifying and frequently very funny.”

Availability in the Onondaga Public Library System is fairly good. A few copies are available now, and hold time looks short for the others. It's also available as an audio book.
